We have provided some additional packing
hints to guide you in packing your vault(s).
Fragile Items:
Wrap your fragile items, individually, in protective padding. Stack
your plates on their sides and glasses upright to avoid breakage.
Place heavier items on bottom and fill open space with newspaper.
Note: Space to Your Place DOES NOT accept responsibility
for breakables.
Mirrors and Pictures:
Wrap mirrors and pictures in protective padding and pack in a mirror
box. Do not lay mirror box flat. Instead, place between a mattress
and box spring or on the side of your vault for maximum protection.
Furniture:
Disassemble, if possible, to maximize space.
Tables and Chairs - Wrap legs with paper
pads to avoid scratching. Place hardware in a bag and tape to the
underside of the table. Wrap the table top with protective padding
and place on its side, not on the bottom of the vault.
Upholstered Items - Pack sofas on their feet, with a second sofa
inverted on top of the other for protection.
Mattresses - Place mattresses
and box springs in a protective bag and stand upright
on the side of your vault.
Beds - Tie bed rails together.
Lamps - Wrap bases with protective
padding and place smaller ones in drawers and larger
ones in boxes. Shades should be placed in individual
boxes to avoid crumpling and staining. Use newspaper
to fill in open spaces.
Rugs - Vacuum rugs, sprinkle
with moth flakes, roll up and tie with rope. Rugs can
be wrapped with paper pads for additional protection.
Appliances:
Clean thoroughly before storing. Drain all water and leave doors
cracked to prevent mildew. Tape down moving parts. Baking soda may
be sprinkled over flat surfaces to avoid mildew.
Clothing:
Use wardrobe boxes for storing your clothes. Shoes, and small folded
items can be placed beneath.
Electrical Components:
Review your owner's manual for moving instructions before packing
your vault. If possible, use your original boxes. Otherwise, wrap
each item separately and securely. (HINT: for easier reinstallation,
label each component's wiring with tape).
Bicycles and Tools:
Clean and cover with protective padding to prevent other items from
being torn or stained. Small tools can be placed in a box whereas
larger tools should be taped or tied together. (HINT: lightly wipe
tools with oil for added rust protection).
Books and Paper:
Pack in small boxes for easy lifting.
REMEMBER: Do not load more than 2,000 lbs in one vault.
Space To Your Place wants to help make your storage process as safe
and hassle-free as possible. Please take a few moments to review
these guidelines before you begin packing your vault(s).
1. Place heavy items on bottom and lighter on top.
2. Pack all your items as tight as possible and avoid leaving open
spaces where items might have a tendency to shift (HINT: pack your
vault one section at a time, tying off each section as you go).
3. Distribute the weight evenly in your vault(s). Avoid placing all
your items on one side.
4. Use the appropriate size boxes for your items. Place lighter items
in larger boxes and heavier items in smaller boxes for easier lifting.
5. Fill boxes completely and securely close box lids. This reduces
shifting and diminishes the tendency of boxes breaking.
6. Protect your items with protective padding (i.e. paper pads, bubble
pack, newspaper or moving blankets).
7. Mark all your boxes with your name and list of contents for identification.
Place items you will need often in front of your vault(s) for easy
access.
8. Prop the door open while loading to prevent the door from accidentally
closing.
9. Secure your vault(s) when it is unattended with a padlock.
10. Remove the yellow copy of the rental agreement, along with the
pink copy of Use your enclosed Inventory List to maintain a detailed
record of your stored items.
